Sandoval County Treasurer Laura M. Montoya will have Tax Researcher Liaisons visiting Senior Centers throughout the county to assist with questions regarding tax bills. They also will be accepting tax payments by check, money order, credit card or debit card.

Treasurer Montoya is implementing a new pilot program that will consist of two Tax Researchers visiting county Senior Centers to answer any tax questions and accept and receipt tax payments.

So far, the project has resulted in $29 million added to the county’s tax roll. However, that doesn’t mean individual county residents are seeing spikes in the taxable value of their property. In fact, Garcia says, this additional value was a contributing factor in the lowering of tax rates for the 2014 tax year.

“Whether you choose to vote early, or on the traditional Election Day, reviewing a sample ballot before arriving at your polling place can save you some time in the voting booth,” County Clerk Eileen Garbagni said. “This year’s ballot has several proposed constitutional amendments and bond questions that voters probably will want to read carefully before making a decision. Some early voters have told us it took them up to 15 minutes to go through the entire ballot.”

There will be numerous healthcare providers offering free health screenings—checking blood pressure, cholesterol and other vital measurements. Children will be able to get free vaccinations, as long as their parents remember to bring current shots records. However, there also will be many more things to do.

The next free clinic is scheduled for October 23 – 26, 2014 at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho. That location prompted the Sandoval County Commission to direct dollars from the county’s Indigent Funds, which earmarked for health care needs for low-income residents, to help support the clinic.

The commission’s order bans the sale and use of missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets and all exploding devices that can be heard while standing on the ground within the unincorporated areas of Sandoval County.
It also limits the use of sparkling and smoke-type fireworks—whether they burn on the ground or are held in a person’s hand—to areas that are paved or barren or that have a readily accessible source of water for use by the homeowner or general public.
